I remember watching these jumps when I was a little kid, back in the early 90's when my dad was stationed at FT. Bragg. Awesome

800 to 1200 feet AGL in peacetime training. We jumped at 500 feet in Panama, no need for a reserve at that altitude.

HALO Freefall Warriors are elites, the Paratroopers don't use the same because HALO has different jobs, they drop from 30,000ft in the air sometimes, the Airborne only drops 4000-1200ft...

Both the 101st Screamin Eagles and 82nd All Americans are the greatest Divisions in American History, both heroic Paratrooper Divisions.Don't get me wrong, I like all Airborne, and Army not to mention the Special Forces and Rangers. But I feel for the 101st and 82ndAll Americans and Screamin Eagles!

A rifle company jumped into Afghanistan with the Rangers a few years back...that is to answer devine's comment about the 82nd not jumping.

I hope you all know that when you do a combat jump with a static line in any war you jump with a ruck and a weapon...you usually jump out at 1200 feet and descend at 18-22 ft per sec...making it about 60 secs to land. its the most effective way to drop combat ready troops in a war thats why the military still does it. I am currently at airborne school getting ready to graduate. Good luck everyone joining in the future its easy as hell just remember to keep your feet and knees together! |
