sunlei, some horses perfer spurs over crops if your horse doesnt respond to the leg very well..if you know how to use them righ, they do not harm the horse

What's the name of the song right in the beginning where it says: "That day, my life, changed forever."

I doubt Pat would ever abuse his spurs but I myself know that he does not need them. So I don't know why he uses something he doesn't need to.

yes sure spurs are a TOOL but they can really scar-up,cut and tortue a horse aswell. That's why I'd like to see no spurs in competition. Lets see if the horse is really trained or in fear of the spurs.

Believe me I thought the same! But I can do alot of it now! I'm only 14, and I've been working with an ARABIAN for a year now! Life has changed for both of us! he was the lazy boy, bucked cuz he didn't want to go! It's all changed now, we surprise people and Have fun! I can get him to do 110% more things then anyone ever though he could do! WHY? because of PNH!!

The "natural" comes from the pyschology used to communicate with horses, and the way the tools are used. Spurs can be applied as light as a fly along with the bit forrefinement of the communication; of course the balance and distribution of weight as an aid is extremely important. Saddle or bareback, bad balance can also torture a horse. It depends on the sensitivity of the individual horse. It's amazing what some put up with! I Love my critters and will never be "normal"...Happy Trails!

sometimes it may feel a bit safer.. when i hack out i take a whip.. but i have never used it.. a quick tap on its backside will wake him up, i dont like the full forse whipping, i have used leg aids too on more stubborn horses to apply pressure to a smaller area as boots wont do this. but i would never hurt them :)

I love natural horsemanship but I am dissapointed to see spurs! I mean a horse can feel a fly on its body, whats wrong with tossing the spurs aswell and just use some slight natural leg pressure.
