I think its disappointing when people say Barbaro was the best race horse.Secretariat is the greatest, and his accomplishments speak for him. If he was in a race with all the greatest horses-Man O War, War Admiral, Seabiscuit, Seattle Slew, Barbaro, Ruffian-He would win hands down.

This is the best athletic performance by any living thing ever. These were the finest horses in the world at the time and Secretariat absolutely obliterated them by 31 lengths. Nothing else in history even comes close.

I used to race... to run unopposed faster and faster in an effortless stride it brought tears to my eyes then as it does today. When someone asks me what was the most exciting event in the history of sports I always say SECRETARIAT! Close second Mark Spitz. 11 medals- 9 Gold - 7Gold in 1 Olympiad all world records.++

I was at this race. I won 10 cents as I remember on a $2.00 bet. Maybe it was 20 cents!I have been to world series, super bowls, and sporting events of every sort. Nothing compares to the excitement of this race. The Triple Crown, The Record, The Crowd. It was the perfect storm.Secretariat was an athlete pure and simple.

Look at the time...2:24. STILL TO THIS DAY the world record for 1 1/2 miles. No other horse has really come close to 2:25 even.

I am always in awe of this horse...he WAS truly one of a kind. The only time that Ronnie had to use the whip was in the Kentucky Derby...other than that he was hand-ridden and mostly decided for himself how to run.

Gotta give ya goosebumps when u see him come down to the finish line with over 20 length lead. Really just amazing. That horse just had amazing endurance.

I never, ever cry at movies but every time I watch this thing I tear up - "moving like a tremendous machine" gets me every time. What an amazing horse!
