Normal rain runoff doesn't look like chocolate milk. I think you would need a pipe measured in feet rather than inches to deal with that BS.

so i take it you must be 100 % Cherokee then right? If not, then you too are an import, guilty of all the same things newer imports are.

Actually the 24" pipe is the same diameter as the next three upstream pipes as well as the next downstream pipe. The flow had been perfectly acceptable during much heavier, longer duration rains over the past 13 years. The problems started when approx. 10 acres of mountainside were completely cleared and runoff from that area was not continuously routed into an adequate detention system or otherwise safely controlled before leaving the excavated area.

The owner of the home was responsible for putting in a drainpipe that was too small, and not keeping debris out of the way.I do wish ALL the people not born here in the mountains would just leave!

Maybe the pipe was installed incorrectly. However, this illustrates the problem with steep slope development. I am from Asheville but now live in Boone and the town here passed a moratorium on steep slope development. Developers whine and cry about it. However, if someone had a construction site above their house and run off can into their yard or WORSE if it contaminated THEIR well they would be very angry.

This is precisely why we need steep slope development ordinances. I am from Asheville but now live in Boone and the town here has already enacted such a moratorium. The developers whine and cry about it but if they are watching this is a good example of why it is needed and also other kinds of zoning ordinances to control erosion, etc. Would you want someone with a construction site higher on the mountain ruining your well due to runoff from a construction site?

With him making these changes and not involving county officials with the proper permits, he really should be fined hundreds and thousands of dollars...but he wasn't and so be it...he has a messed up basement now due to improper action. call and engineer next time buddy!
marcky6357 (November 16, 2007 at 4:51 pm)
This is not due to the developer or the contractor...the owner of this video installed a 12 inch cross pipe without doing any kind of calc's to see if the max water flow for the pipe would be sufficient and be able to stand during a hard downpour. Of course it didn't and you can see that the creek that runs through his property was damed up at the cross pipe by debris and overflowed into the owner's yard.

firefighter:so you are defending this sort of shoddy work that creates this?? this is nothing to be proud of. if you depend on crappy construction jobs to 'feed your family' you need to find better work.true locals know this is out-of-towners destroying the community and landscape
