YOu are completely right. There are only a hand full of good bands right now. Smashing Pumpkins, Silversun Pickups, Circa Survive, and Pearl Jam.

They are actually very similar. In addition to what the user said above, they both feature liberal use of distorted guitar work. They also both have quite a bit of transitioning from soft to loud.

This is some of the best prog/alternative. I thought we were gonna lose our minds to all this emo shit. Thanks to bands like this and then when The Smashing Pumpkins released their new albulm, I think its safe to sleep again, knowing that good music has finally come back.
