I agree with your statement. But unfortunately Gorbachev was the last decisive string that utterly collapsed the Soviet Union. But in the long term it was a combination of policies created by Breshnev, Krushev and Gorbachev who contributed to the Soviet Unions collapse.

I think you put too much blame for the USSR's collapse on Gorbachev. There had been a great deal of internal decay in the USSR for decades. The war in Afghanistan only accelerated the worst problems, including crime and drug use among returning war vets. An old line by workers in the USSR went "They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work." The USSR was rotting long before Gorbachev took leadership. The US should be careful with its own costly foreign wars.

I will offer a simple quote from Einstein as a potential explanation, "As long as there are men, there will be wars." Just like any superpower, America is in trembling fear to lose their status, which ironically, they eventually will. Other nations like Russia are not willing to be left behind in the arms race of sorts, consequently creating their own weaponary.Does this explanation help you with understanding?

Are you an idiot? Gorbachev made the country fall apart with his idiotic reforms. Consequently he was horrible for the country, and I am surprised he isn't dead in a ditch somewhere. Yeltsin was a drunkard that destroyed Russia economy, through theft or letting his "friends" borrow government money. This was the creation of the Oligarchs.

what a strong song! pretty much says it all about the era. i'm taking the course "introduction to international relations"in the university now, and studing about the cold war influenced me to watch this. i wish that nuclear wepond was never invented. how can a state even hold such a thing that can do such a horrible things to the man kind? why, for god sake?
