speaking from personal experience... its not a good idea to train exclusively in BJJ if you want to be, er... "street effective." dont get me wrong, BJJ is one of the most undeniably great systems out there, but training exclusively in BJJ and heading for the streets will not end well.

No martial arts or amount of training can fight against multiple attackers. At the very best you can probably take on 2 opponents (provided they attack you one at a time), but even then it's still dangerous. That's why it's probably best to stay on your feet in the streets just so you can react quicker.I've seen MA demos where the person is being attacked by several people. It looked great in terms of entertainment value, but highly unrealistic.

What makes you think they're useful against many opponents? In theory? Test it.Have a 3 on 1 fight. Even under no grappling, kickboxing rules. if the handicapped person wins then have them win "3 on 1" four more times. Then it'll show the world that it ACTUALLY does work and doesn't just say it does. Like the early UFCs did for Jiu Jitsu and 1 on 1.Start up an promotion with those stipulations! you'll make a lot of money when the TKD/Kung Fu practitioner defeats 3 fully resisting people.

The fact is Bjj is not great for more then one guy and yes in there book the gracie's answer to this was what M.A is but thats not a good answer. I think the gracie's have shown proof that they are not always the best people to talk to when it comes to some stuff like diet for 1 but for a 1 on 1 fighting system Bjj is something you a have to show them a great deal of respect for.

Then you are very ignorant. The ancient martial arts that REPLACED jiujitsu, such as kung fu are effective against many opponents.Jiujitsu was considered dishonorable and transformed through time into judo.Boxing is also very effective against several oponents,to some extent taekwondo also gives you reach, speed and stamina to fight several oponents.Instead of being sarcastic in your answer to "Swordsman629" you should first consider that this guy might have some knowledge, what he's saying is true.

VirtuousRebel ur an idiot its not "Sakabara" its Sakurabaand if u wanna talk all that shit got to a Gracie academy and see what they have to say about it.
VirtuousRebel (July 2, 2008 at 12:45 am)
Royce Gracie got his butt kicked by Sakubara, and Royler gracie got the shit knocked out of him by Genki Sudo (both Japanese fighters). Just look it up. What does this vid tells me ? It shows a BJJ guy overwhelming another guy who knows nothing about ground fighting. If I beat you at a game of pool (and you've never played pool before), it's nothing groundbreaking to write home about. Why don't the Gracies provide commentaries about the Sakabara and Genki Sudo fights ???
VirtuousRebel (July 2, 2008 at 12:45 am)
What's this bullcrap about BJJ being the ONLY effective ground based system. Don't insult my intelligence, yeah, like I've never heard of Judo, Sambo, Catch wrestling, Krav Maga ... Either this BJJ guy is ignorant or he shows little regard for other MAs BJJ addresses ground fighting, I'll give you that, but it's not the only one out there. The Gracies must reckon they're kingshit or something.

BJJ would destroy a wrestler...but Matt Hughes is not just a wrestler, he is an MMA fighter that means he knows how to kick lol, punch, elbow, JIU JITSUUUUUUU, wrestle!!! get it...do you!!!!

"Matt Hughes kicked Rocye Gracies ass. that proves how effective BJJ is against wrestlers"Matt Hughes spent the last decade training under a guy named Pat Miletich. You may have heard of him, he's an MMA legend and a BJJ black belt. |
