Kris was a great singer in the early 70's, but alcohol, and who knows what else, killed his voice.

I somewhat agree, Kris may not have been the greatest singer, and his songwriting is among the best, but I do not think that the others carried him, he in his own right is well loved, and with or without the rest, he will always be amoung the best, and has had many great songs on his own. He's one of my favorites. Love the highway men, don't make songs like this anymore.
