Malaysian politics cannot be compared with singapore's eventhough the cultural and ethnich make up is similiar. In singapore 90% is of one race and , democracy is replaced by the lee kuan yew sultanate. Just because singapore seems to prosper and have a better economy than us doesnt meant that democracy exist there. Ture democracy is slowly breaking free here after 50 years of imprisonment by BN

UMNO won coz:1.Barisan lost 2/3 majority once, in 1969. Only briefly.2.Since 1957, it has amended the constitution 690 times to propagate its power. By comparison, USA which is more 200 years old has only amended its constitution 27 times; Singapore as little as only 4 times.Barisan received 63.8% of the popular votes but has 199 parliamentary seats-91% of all parliamentary seats. The opposition received 36.2% of the popular votes but has 20 parliamentary seats-9% of all parliamentary seats.
