this song is so sad and bruce a.k.a. the boss in music has such a powerful gift.He can change lives and make other's happier through his music and may God bless bruce springsteen.

the last time i was there was in 96 and they were rebuilding then. it has changed alot since then. where else is the excitement but vegas. i live an hour away from foxwoods and the mohegan sun, BORING!

Phanahtic, thanks for some very intersting story-behind-the-song. I had always wondered who the chicken man was. Haunting is definitely the word for this song, especially as it fades out at the end. I admire the way it faces up to the decay and failure of life but ultimately gives a message of redemption. You mention the '40s/'50s noir films; I wonder: has this song ever been used in a major motion pic? It should be!

Same here. I cut a version of this song with my brother in his studio. The lyrics and the music are just vivid and haunting.
