I love your two cents. The 6.5 Grendel sounds interesting. I believe many old Italian rifles used this round. Very powerful and accurate. I think it's the round that killed Kennedy. To save money I think the brass would like to maintain current hardware (if that's possible) and use more powerful ammunition. Supposedly, top brass are heavily invested in Colt, that's why they're still using the same guns for 40 years.

I like intermediate rounds a little better. A 7.62X51 in CQC is a bit much and would likely cause more collatoral damage (although an H chambered in 7.62X39 would be great for that). My preferance would be 6.5 Grendel-a good close and long range round. A .45 ACP is great for close range against an enemy without body armor, but I prefer a .40 S&W personally. I know the SEALs are using .40's and .357 sigs now (Sig p226's I believe). That's just my two cents.

SCAR heavy should be the only viable choice, since many soldiers and Marines are unhappy with the 5.56 round. Go heavy. Also, bring back the 1911 .45 ACP. Can you feel the love? If I was in charge you'd have the SCAR heavy and .45 pistol and many happy smiling faces.

I've asked this guy who is home from a tour with MarSOC, and they were testing the SCAR in the Horn (of Africa). Apperently they liked it. But he said he still doesn't know the status of the project right now. This was a month or 2 ago.

yeah give it a shot. They probably won't tell you anything, though.

So far, the only updates I have are that the civilian version is on schedule to be released late this year and early 2009. I haven't heard anything too recently about its status with the military. I'm a member of the FN forum and hoping something will come up soon there. Maybe I should ask the FN rep if he knows anything about its status with SOCOM.

hey dvo, if you get any updates on the SCAR status will you post? I'll do the same.

They might make them in the US, but they are not doing so now. The first batches have come from their factory in Belgium. FNH USA is a subsidiary of FNH, which also owns Browning and Winchester |
