Entertaining, but a bit off. Search Google: "MPR Guitar Hero Leo Kottke" for a great interview. In it he talks about how his sister died and he was heading towards death - bedridden, and his mother gave him a guitar. He said that it saved his life - after starting to play and finding an E Chord, he now had his reason to live. It's a great interview - well worth the 53 min. running time.

Tabpigs wrote "Any 12 string can be tuned to concert pitch with light gauge strings, though I personally would bring it down 1 step"Is it true that tension on the bridge of 12 string tuned to CP with medium gauge strings is close to half a ton? Certainly, my first 12 ended up with a banana neck. Now with my Fender I tune one tone below CP. The Fender's action is very low, so 2 tones isn't feasible, but it's 20 years old & plays beautifully.A great player from the 60's was Billy Strange.

These comments remind me of Japanese guy I saw playing a 62 strat that he just bought for $12,500 at the Dallas Guitar Show saying, "Man this guitar got soul . . ." Keep on thinking that.

Leo sounds like Leo because he plays a Podunavac guitar and he's Leo Kottke.

Comment #2:4. Any 12 string can be tuned to concert pitch with light gauge strings, even though I personally would bring it down 1.0 step.5. There is no such thing as a "D harmonic string". Think he meant "G octave".6. 12 string's are tuned in octaves for all string pairs, expect for the high E & B strings, which are tuned in unison (Leadbelly notwithstanding.Hope all this helps,The TabPigs

Folks, it's time to set the record straight on a number of incorrect statements posted so far.1. Leo tuned his 12 strings 1.5 - 2.0 steps down, thus the "roar" he gets. It is NOT because of any hearing loss....it's for TONE!2. He is in Open G tuning in this vid (again, down 1.5 -2.0 steps). It is NOT Open C, or Eb, etc. Get it straight!3. Medium gauge strings used here (0.13 - 0.56), but note the wound octave A (10th) string. VERY important for his tone.see comment #2....
