Saw Gong a lot of times in the early 70s . Also saw Daevid Allen with Here and Now about 1977 I think. I can say that every show was an "event" you never really knew what to expect but it was always good. I remember Daevid taking the stage at the L.S.E in London in longjohns with some sort of box on his head. Makes me feel old...ahhh those were the days.

I went to see Gong in the 1970s. I can safely say it was the most unmitigated, unstructured, wrecked-headed garbage for which I ever had the misfortune of buying a ticket. You might think that I must have been seriously non-hip to hold this opinion but I assure you this is far from the truth. The fact is that the support band were better than they were and believe me the support band were nowhere near as good as today's average pub band. |
