At this level of playing, it is not an argument of technique, rather that of interpretation. I'm with many of you in preferring the Brendel video. And yet, each performer provides moments of genuine beauty that are unique to themselves - i.e. there is no such thing as the perfect intertpretaion.

What Truth, pusjasha, your truth? I think Horowitz had better moments than that one, with pieces better suited to his abilities. There is no lack of excellent interpretations of this impromptu on youtube. By Zimerman here, Brendel, Perahia, that I know of.

What is for Zimmerman! - listen to Horowitz, recital in Wien, 1987! Truth is there!

No it doesn't. Your speakers probably are low quality, so, because Brendel's is more blended than this, it probably sounds bad to you.Brendel's has everything that this one has plus:-Good Rubato-More flow-More volume changing-Tiny cresendoes in the arpeggios making the notes come in and out of being noticeable.Brendel's is nicer, but this one is my second favorite.Zimerman specializes mainly in Chopin.Brendel's specialty is Schubert and Beethoven.

This pwns brendels so hard.. in every way !

Well, its sort of like this-Brendel plays the arpeggios softer and slightly more varied compared to the melody. He makes all sorts of smooth crescendoes, making the arpeggios just audible enough to hear how the go. The effect created is gorgeous. He also uses more rubato in the melody. I prefer Brendel's version, but thats not putting down Zimerman's here, who's is great. Zimerman's is my second favorite recording.

would you please explain the way Brendel plays the arpeggios? I don't quite understand.

Then it's not really the best piano in the world but in the world of the beholder
hellomate639 (June 20, 2008 at 11:19 pm)
Its beautiful, but doesn't quite get up to Brendel's.Brendel has some strange control over the arpeggios that I am just beggining to understand. |
