He used the Melocchi technique, like many other successful dramatic Italian tenors. It's a lowered larynx technique, not pushed down with throat muscles but drawn down by "leaning' against the chest from inside.del Monaco and his brother, Marcello, studied with Melocchi and marcello later taught Martinucci and Giacomini, as well as Cecchele and Merighi.

Amazing sound! Giacomini's voice is twice as big as singers half his age. He started his career as a bright tenor, but now he has some lovely baritone color even in Bbs!

A Bass friend of mine, James Patterson still has hearing problems to this day after standing next to Giacomini in San Francisco when he let loose with one of his absolutely nuclear high notes nearly shattering his ear drum. GG's voice had it all from top to bottom. Just amazing there aren't more commercial recordings of him.

Tenors in general are notoriously shorter than their Bariton or Bass-Baritone counter parts. The industry trends more towards the physical asthetic instead of vocal ability now days, so tenors are taller, leaner...but not very good, in my opinion (with a couple of exceptions).
