Also - Shine (1996) & The Insider (1999 - incidentally another film which, like Shawshank, was also robbed of the 7 awards it was nominated for & deserved to win).

"I hope"...the two words that have helped so many of us to go on throughout the years. How I LOVE the ending of this movie. RubyTuesday717 is right. It's the best film ending of all time...a "masterpiece". Thanks for posting.

As much as I adore VERTIGO, CASABLANCA, CITY LIGHTS and THE SEARCHERS, this ending is the one that really just feels emotionally perfect. Happy without being a cop-out and sentimental without being manipulative, this is my favorite film ending of all time. A masterpiece.

Who else thought the movie would end with the bus going up the hill?

That scene always get me, because I can actually put myself in either character's position and visualize how it would be to see an old buddy, met under as stressful circumstances as prison, after so long, at a beautiful setting like this one.

yeah, it's sad for us new actors because we might not ever get the chance to make as good as films as these! Well, you know what? We can "HOPE"! |
