boats are sunk if beyond repair from bust or too hazardous to retrieve they are then sunk and destroyed so as not to be retrieved later by some treasure hunter lookin' to sell it to someone that can fix it and use it

As an ole USCG retire I enjoy seeing what's going on via youtube. I just don't recall ever getting such a giddy smile from any of my Commanding Officers on any of the 10 ships I was on. But of course that was after the SPAR corps and before females reentered the USCG.

If you knew your stuff - that "girl" was wearing the uniform and insignia of a USCG Captain - which is equivalent to a full colonel - Since the ship was a USCG WHEC (High Endurance Cutter) of the Munro class - it was a 378' ship and the "girl" was most likely the Commanding Officer of the vessel.

The term "DIW" or Dead in the Water means a boat is not making any "way" another nautical term that means it is not moving by some sort of propulsion - engine or sail. Get your terms right before you write. Semper Paratus

They Shot/Sunk the ship because its a navigational hazard to all marine traffic. Besides it not being seaworthy , do you expect them to tow all the boats they seize around for 3 months? That would be one funny caravan. |
