Dune was astounding...

Even if the film adaption was not entirely accurate, you have to admit this is a really good science fiction film considering that this was made in the time period where everyone was making clones of the Star Wars movies. It's especially interesting to see a surrealist director doing something entirely different and helping reconstruct an entirely imagined world.

Aidan, the movie was made filmed through 1983 and 1984. There was a strike all across Hollywood at the time. Any movie from those years is going to suck ass. I think he did a great job considering. It could've been a lot worse. And he did a great job at capturing the atmosphere of the book, even if he wasn't very accurate to the book otherwise.

It will be interesting to see the new DUNE will be like. Have you heard of a possible release date?

The weirding modules are the only aspect that should not have been included and ruin the film's continuity with the novels. A 3.5 hour film might have made things better, but that was almost unheard of back in the 80's prior to the LOTR movies. Peter Berg is directing a new Dune movie, so let's see if he can beat Lynch's cult classic.

I realize that this movie was a block office flop, but it's not that bad if you factor in a few things. If you've read Frank Herbert's original Dune series and you have a creative imagination, this movie actually rocks. For those who really don't understand the novels, you might hate this movie. The casting was great and the artistic design was spot on. I believe that's why Herbert liked the movie.

I like Dune, i like David Lynch, i'm aware that Frank Herbert liked it and i even know people who say it's exactly like they imagined the book, but although i've given it every chance and i own the DVD, i simply cannot see this movie as good in any way. I wish i could. |
