I feel the same way. Though I think the sets are brilliant, and the effects are passable for that period.

yea but usually they keep the things in it that made the book good in first place...this movie was crappy AND it wasn't faithful to the book...and if it had been more faithful to the book it would have probably been a better movie.

Oh boo hoo. Alot of movies based on books aren't always totally faithful to the book that it was based on.

i understand how people who havent read the books could feel a bit confused or stepped on by the Lynch adaptation. I have to say that I loved it and have watched it over and over again, over the years. Having read the books seems to make all the difference in the world. The beauty of the films imagery and color, the design (largely imagined from the ground up) of the sets and costumes , the machinery... my Lord its perfect. I think its just too much book for big screen in one shot.

I loved this movie since I first saw it. The SciFi Channel's version was also very good. VERY INTERESTED to see how Peter Berg's version will turn out!

Are you kidding me? So much of the things that made the book great were left out and other ridiculous things were added. That crap about guns that are powered by shouting into them. The ending where it randomly rains. That was total shit that was made up for the movie. I think they merely focused on the wrong aspects of the book to keep in the movie and they omitted the things they should have kept.

This was too faithful to the book. There was too much detail never explained. Some books should never become 120 minute stories.

The special effects are bad, the acting's laughable, the story is slow, Sting's in it for no apparent reason, Toto did the music, the ending was weird with the thunderstorm and new age soft rock over the end credits. It was a stinking pile of crap. Man, I loved that movie. I really did. A flawed masterpiece, which I believe. I absolutely think it was far too ambitious a project to adapt to film, but the result was so damn bizarre and wonderful that I can't imagine if it had never been made. |
