Also, as you say, he was probably just some guy, not "christ", and its taken from a year on which he almost certainly wasn't born (Jesus was probably born in 4 BCE).Its called common era because, for historical reasons, it has become the most commonly adopted era upon which to describe history and measure historical events; it would be ridiculous to change it but it's wrong to maintain it within Christian doctrine just because that's where it originated.

I can't believe I'm arguing about something so insignificant, but no one has shown me historical evidence that that man ever existed, much less was born in that year. So to me it's like an arbitrary date. Not to digress, because 'BC' and 'BCE' are important issues, but did you know that Richard Cheney directed 9/11? |
