I think David Jason's doing Hughie Green's ridiculous transatlantic accent - very convincingly. Viv live in Oxford, post Bonzos, was the only one in the theatre not to know the lyrics to Big Shot so we did it for him. I really miss him.

I figured the blackface was probably just a bit of provocation--the song is great. Love when Stanshall loses it over the failed limbo attempts. Also, David Jason was surprisingly convincing as an American.
