I could've done without the voice at the end. The most important thing is exposure. What should matter is that we're all improved through our rituals. If one's religion makes them a better person, the rest shouldn't matter. "Scary cult invasion" is just ridiculous.

President Ikeda would never refuse to talk with somebody based on their religion. Ikeda and the Dalai Lama are both peace activists and both are on the advisory board of World Centers of Compassion for Children International. The DL sent Pres. Ikeda a congratulatory message for something a few months back. I've no doubt the admiration is mutual.Doctrinally, Tibetan Buddhism has some issues, but what really matters is what kind of person the DL is.

I didn't know about the Hirohito holiday. Apparently the DPJ also supported this, making the vote close to unanimous. I agree that that is deplorable. When NK says the SG is its "largest single support group", I presume they must mean at a grass roots level. The SG does not fund NK, their adminstrations are strictly separated, and I understand that it is forbidden to canvas for NK at SG activities. There are periodic liaison meetings, which are reported in SGI press releases.

New Komeito voiced opposition, for instance, to sending Aegis cruisers to the Indian Ocean in 2002 lest they be used to assist the invasion of Iraq. However it accepted such decisions as a member of the ruling coalition. Presumably it reasoned that by staying within the coalition it would be able at least to wield some influence. As a consequence it has, not surprisingly, alienated many of its core voters who feel that it has abandoned its pacifist principles and sold out.

"Komeito is not the Soka Gakkai. I've already explained this to you." I'm sorry but these repeated statements meant to distance Soka from New Komeito (a political party in Japan usually identified as center-right that supported the U.S. led Iraq invasion and have recently supported a nationalistic renaming of a holiday honoring Emporer Hirohito) really cannot withstand much scrutiny: "the Soka Gakkai constitutes the largest single support group of New Komeito." - FAQ New Komeito website

Komeito is not the Soka Gakkai. I've already explained this to you. From what I can gather on the web, the government has just said it will keep the road tax as it is; the opposition wants to reduce it. I can find no reference in English to exstinctions etc apart from your own.You seem to be implying that any politician anywhere who fails to curb road-building is an unspeakable fiend. This is a rather extreme point of view, isn't it? |
