On the subject of the nature of John...I know people who believe in Jesus but also do not believe Jesus himself will return. They believe he was one of many people who are sent to inspire others to do good and change the world for the better.While I don't necessarily share this view, I believe this is what Milch was after. John is not Jesus per se, but was sent by God to affect change among those on Earth.

An incredibly helpful and insightful extra is included with the DVD (totally worth buying for this feature alone). It's a filmed sequence...David Milch has the entire cast gathered on set and is explaining John's monologue from episode six (in the motel parking lot) that clears up a lot of things and alludes to elements that had been planned for the show's second season.

I think the producers are implying that John is god, a god or an alternate-dimensional being and tha Cincinnati is heaven of another dimension. That the strong implication. Check out the final episode.

Did anyone from the show explain who or WHAT John was? I was totally into the show and I could see past the quirkiness of the show, because it was a total original! someone...PLEASE....do you have any asnswers about who John was? If not, please tell me that another station will pick it up, or they'll release a (DVD) movie that explain the entire premise...Awesome show though!!!

the show was intregig but it was SO wierd i didnt understand it and boringi couldnt get through it
