to be honest i dont like elvis, his music doesnt do it for me, same with johnny cash. i respect them for there music influence of course but im not rly into country stuff. it just doesnt give me a feeling like i get with the blues.

Now, PLEASE don't take that to mean that I think Elvis was not talented. I am by NO means saying that. He was just the perfect thing for the market at the time, and his talent made his career even bigger than it would have been.

Not really. Look at Louis Armstrong. Both played for segregated audiences. True, some people appreciated the music, but Sam Phillips knew what he was doing when he found Elvis. By his own account, Sam was looking for a white man who could sing like a black man. He KNEW it would be a success because people loved the rythym and blues music that black musicians were putting out, but Sam knew that if he could find a white guy to do it, that guy would be a superstar. And he was.

yea but u have to remember wat year this is. back then black ppl wernt as accepted in white western american culture. so its quite amazing the sheer number of white ppl that are clapping

There are some songs where I can really hear similarities between Jimi Hendrix's singing and Muddy Water's (the album version of Hootchie Cootchie Man comes to mind to me).
