God, just listen Sarah Chang. After her I would question Vitali nationality. Accordingly to Sara's interpretation he was Chinese.

That's right he has few notes off. Well you know nobody is perfect and big master can do mistakes. But when you listen his performance it takes you different level. It has an idea and story. You not tired of listening this you actually enjoying. When Sarah plays very good too, but her performance is not as mature as Milsteins. Also those notes you talking about was just a little big off, many people wouldn't even notes it.

Guarneris, ur pathetic negatively commenting at all on this performancemilstein is one of the most respected violinists out there-so u cant talk unless u match his level+milstein is always know for his genius phrasing which suits him perfectly for this pieceand picking on his intonation at his level is really sad and shows u have no idea what ur talking aboutand sarah chang is nothing compared to this masterpiece-u cant compare her to any of the true violinists-really

wat i like about him is that he has his own way of playing it instead of just playing it like everybody else. Sure, he isn't exactly the best player in the world, but he has his own style, and indivisualality is pretty important when it comes to playing an instrument.

This is beautiful!

I agree with you. Fortunately, I have a feeling things are changing. Too many people are fed up with commercial violinists being in the lime light.
Guarneris (June 4, 2008 at 5:33 am)
(cont.) resonance. In addition, the melody gets sequestered in rhyme brackets; the flow of sentiment is constantly interrupted. I would not blame Milstein but maybe is a low quality recording. Of course I like Chang's version better.
Guarneris (June 4, 2008 at 5:32 am)
As others have already commented (Absolute and leg2105 among them) some of his notes are lightly out of tune, so I do not think is jut my ear. The slight matching discrepancy in pitch to the piano wears off the performance and gives the violin a phony

Milstein is the artist. Sarah Chang plays, shows off or whatever you may call it. People like or hate it. That's the way the world is people differ. Just don't make intentionally or unintentionally sweeping comments or generalization about youth emerging just because of one young Sarah Chang. And, True masters were once some 4-year-olds playing Beethoven concerto.

oh i didn't see that you posted 2 comments. and btw if this comment is somewhat directed to me, i never compared her with any other violinists. i wouldn't dare... lol |
