By the way, if you know anyone who is sad, depressed, believes that life is not worth living or who has suffered a terrible bereavement, encourage them to listen to this music, the greatest thing Mahler ever wrote, a glorious tribute to the human spirit and to Mankind.

I went to the Greenville performance also. My symphony in NC did Mahler 2 the 2006-2007 season and it was amazing! The Greenville performance was increadible also! I travelled from Winston-Salem to Greenville just to hear my favorite symphony.

Mahler wrote great music. This is proof.

He's Edvard Tchivzhel. His last name is pronounced something like CHIV-zel (or you could just sneeze).

Nope, her name is Charlotte Higgins and she teaches in Georgia. I was at the Sunday performance, too! I love the conductor as well (what's his name again?).

Hey KatherineXIX--Your fiddle teacher doesn't happen to have a first name of Suzanne, does she? My sister might have had the same teacher here in GVL (she's 30, would've had Suzanne back in the early-to-mid 90's).BTW, my wife and I were at the Sunday GSO performance. I am very familiar w/ the Mahler 2, having enjoyed it for many years, but the concert was great, wasn't it? I am so glad for you that you've been introduced to Mahler! His music is just as you said--INDESCRIBABLE!

A month ago, I was invited to hear my former violin teacher play with the Greenville Symphony. Having no idea what I was in for, I sat down - only to be treated to this sublime, heavenly experience. The finale alone was just indescribable - trumpets in the balcony, the lovely mezzo soloist, the explosive dynamics...let's just say I'm so glad my first experience with Mahler's Resurrection was live! Although I wish I could have seen von Otter and Martinpelto sing it live, too.
