Dorian built his physique for the earlier part of his career on 2 and 3 sets per exercise, but then later, refined his training so that with great intensity he did one work set per exercise. But don't discount the "warm up" sets. Already with quads warmed up through extensions he would do one set at almost 800lbs, then another at over 1,000lbs before doing his main work set of over 1,200lbs. At 3 or 4 sets per major muscle group that's still a fair amount of overall work.

I second that smadams. Yates workouts are based around sheer intensity and pushing to the max on limited sets. I believe the same Flex article mentions that his total workout time per week is approx 3.5Hrs! |
