henri matisse was a great. pollack wasent, but his drip paintings are important only because of the technique, on their own they are just decorative. i prefered his early figurative works.

Kirk Varnedoe really knows his stuff, this interview more than anything has helped me understand Pollock. (Is it true Varnedoe has passed away? If so thats sad)

Also I don't understand why you believe there has to be method and proper technique. Just because someone can paint good or being able to reproduce a work doesn't make them a great artist. Thats the beauty of Pollock's work and how he was doing things other people were not at the time. And yes you should still see his work in person.

I wasn't trying to be rude, I don't know where you get that from reading, thats just how you interpreted it like everyone does from reading peoples comments on the internet. I was just stating theres other art out there like Hoffman's work which looks like anyone could make, as well with Pollock's, but I believe not everyone can, that is all.

You could atleat be a little respectful of other people's opinion's. gaud123's is a valid one. Many art critics are divided when it comes to Pollock and his work. Telling people to take an art class before they speak is very disrespectful. |
