Well, I haven't read the book (yet), I'm going solely on the movie, and in the movie, he sounds Irish.

Are you sure? I've read the book and stuff, and he seems to like London a lot more than Ireland. Yes, Griffin came from the UK, but, he lived in the States for a long time to the point that he lost most of his accent, and then he pretty much stayed in London (not live there) for a very long time. I guess that he's Irish, but, I'd count him more as a British person.
