To see Ayrton racing in the rain up close was the greatest moment that I have ever experienced in racing! I took notice of him in 1985 with that stunning rain drive at Monaco when Jackie Icyxx stopped the race prematurely, which gave Prost the win; then for his rain soaked win at Estoril, Portugal with the black Lotus. A unique talent that should be missed by all...and the most visually exciting driver ever!

mlesslan - "I almost cried there" Ya...me too. Put someone else in that same car, same conditions, and see what they get. What a Frigg** lap that was....

It was gated. When F1 went sequential, they used 'paddles' behind the steering wheel already. But 1993 was infamous for rampant gizmos and electronic aids which even included some automatic gear shifting.

Yeah, notice the old school stick shifting. Were those cars running a sequential gearbox by then, or was it still gated shifting. Probably still had a manual clutch, though.

1'38.041, on pole by fully 1.7 seconds. The man was on fire and would have taken the 89 title were he not cheated out of it by a corrupt head of the FIA and Prost's dubious 'defense'.

F1 cars NEVER used stability control and don't use launch control today but you're more or less right.
