bobfromtempe, you are so lucky. I wish they would come to Toronto but I just had a horrible thought however. What if Walter invites Bob Dylan and Neil Young on stage to sing back up harmonies and Britney Spears shows up for the finale? I know, paintball guns! A screen comes down protecting the band of course. Or if they manage to get away, "Drive-By_Paintball", the new game from Matel. No?

i just saw steeely dan last nite in phoenix and walter sung the vocals for the song "gaucho" and his vocal lessons have been paying off... i sat in the third row, center stage and his range and key is so much better now... oh, did i mention they totally kicked ass, "kid charlemagne" and "aja" brought the house down...

Want to hear some really bad singing? Listen to anything sung by Bob Dylan or Neil Young. And in Dylan's case really bad playing too. Walter gives a reasonable performance on this one. Don't forget that it's also live and you don't have a chance to clean it up in the studio for that reason.

anderthalneal. And you decided this how?Becker and Fagen wrote this song.I guess that means that Becker gets to sing it any way he wants. And you are just a whingeing asshole.

Poor Walter should not be allowed to sing.

If you like Walter Becker's singing style, listen to Book of Liars on the Alive in America CD. I love that song--Becker delivers like the old pro that he is. He's not a crooner, just a solid song writer, and not a bad guitar player, either.

Always thought David Bowie should cover this song.

Totally agree with you, Mel0132.. Walter rocks! If people want to listen to their CDs they should stay home. Happily I saw SD live twice (got 3rd row tkts the 1st time!!) and I enjoyed it so much. The Royal Scam has some amazing songs, and as much as I like Donald's solo albums Steely Dan's albums are much better because of Becker.

None of this would exist if it weren't for Walter Becker. Forget, for just a moment, that he isn't any gifted singer. He is the chief ironist of Steely Dan. And the irony is as thick as molasses here. In 1974 you could fly from New York to Haiti and get a quickie divorce in just 24 hours. So, just imagine being able to fly to Haiti, get a divorce, have sex, get pregnant, and fly home just in time to re-unite tearfully with your ex-spouse, in just 24 hours. That's so ironic. :)
