a bebop tune that's excellent played by an older school. I'm very impresed by Paul Quinichette.

i think at 0:55, Vic Dickinson delivers a tribute to Dickie Wells! Gosh, these are some of my all-time greats! Great to see the Vice-Pres in action!

Looks like Billy Taylor on piano?

Actually the tune is a bebop-era blues -- "Billie's Bounce" by Charlie Parker. It predates the pre-war height of Vic Dickenson's and Buck Clayton's powers. The "Vice President" (Quinichette) is in fine form.

Source is "The Subject Is Jazz," circa 1954. Bless them all --

Paul Quinichette, doing his best Prez imitation yet! Great to see Buck Clayton on video, I"ve enjoyed listening to him for years.

such a swinging tune, solo's are so great. I'm a big fan of older jazz and they're melodic idea's use of vibrato etc.I seem to find a lot of players are going way out of the box which is fine, I just perfer the traditonal jazz. Love these tracks thanks a lot for posting.Elliot |
