What an ellitist remark.

Oscar Peterson and rap "music" in the same sentence? Give me a break. Rap is vile and monotonous. And please, oh discerning (c)rap fans, see if you can respond without an ad hominum attack.

Apples and Oranges. Just enjoy it, Oscar is one of the jazz greats. I was lucky enough to see him two years ago. He is missed

I can read and I read what you said and replied.

huh? i'm just responding to "I'm sorry, no rapper -without exception- is anywhere near as gifted as Peterson, Coltrane or Parker." read better

You talk far too much shit my friend. Hip-hop has had creative force since it's conception. There are plenty of underground artists experimenting all the time, your theory about hip-hop falling out of the public eye was echoed by people over 20 years ago.
Aardvarked88 (July 17, 2008 at 12:48 pm)
Not as musically gifted no, when measuring a rappers talent it's about lyrics. I'm willing to bet that peterson, coltrane or parker wouldn't be as good a rapper as somebody like rakim or kool g rap. It's useless arguing about whether jazz musicians are more talented than rappers, most people would agree with you that playing jazz to the level of coltrane or davis is far harder than becoming a great rapper, but who cares? It's like saying a coltrane is more talented than a great author.

(in case you give a shit, read from the bottom post up, im not sure why youtube sucks so much at allowing you to post)hip hop is now a popular music, as jazz once was. I think that soon hip hop will fall out of the public eye, as artists will become sick of the exact same formula. it is then that hip hop, much like jazz did, will become free of public expectation, and will explode with creative force. |
