Actually I grew up in the early 90s, being born in 86. And I think your grandpa has good taste. The 50s and 40s have a lot of good hits. I only like the music of the 80s though, not really the culture back then. Too much sex and drugs.

Most people believe everything was better in the time that they grew up. There was nothing special about the 80s. The only reason you're fond of the music and movies and styles of the 80s is that you grew up during them, not that they have any special merit over other decades. Things change, and people get stuck in a particular time, and gripe about things that don't fit with their preferences. You sound like my grandfather, except he speaks instead of the 40s and 50s with reverence.
