It sounds like you're well educated about the subject. I'm guessing that during the time she spent with Townes, she revealed to him her middle name when she heard that song and then after that he sang it for her with a special softness of the heart and then the song became a special bond between them. She tells a great story about them performing at the Hole-In-the-Wall and having an adventure at the grocery store while on some psychedelic drug on the 'Be Here To Love Me' DVD about Townes.

Probably true. She says when she and Arlo Guthrie recorded the studio version they kept slipping off pitch because they were in tears. This is a song that has held deep personal meaning to her since she was a teen. (Her middle name is Caroline, and she's always felt a personal connection with the woman in this song.)
