umm, thats an ignorant ginger baker statement.. he is NOT one of my favorite rock drummers from that era but the man was creative and earned the admiration of max roach. what he owes to elvin, bonHAM owes triple to motown/stax and then some more.. oh, but he covered it up by playing very loud so he was "original".. elvin jones though is one of my fav's. i would love to hear some live clips when he briefly played along with rashied ali behind coltrane if they even exist.

to mention ginger baker and elvin jones in the same sentence is a travesty. unless it's to say "ginger baker wasn't much of a drummer, and anything interesting he ever played (sunshine of your love) he owes to the likes of elvin jones . whose ground he used to worship.
