you are buying the rights to the recording, not the "rhythm" (e.g. if you went and played the drum parts yourself for all the metallica songs in existence for your metal band, Lars could not sue you. much as i'm sure he'd like to. :p)

no, you really can't. all recordings (that specific recording) are copyright, and you can copyright the lyrics, but an actual rhythm? no. or chord progression? no. i've done a fair amount of research into copyright law- many murky gray areas to be sure but this one is crystal clear.

This break beat is a rip off of Tommy Roe's songSweet Pea. Check it out and post what you think. This song came out in '65. This was four years before The Winstons' Amen Brother which is just a ripoff medley of Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions.

Having been a Dj since 1988 I was there from the start of dance music, I thought Mantronix King of the Beats was a brilliant use of sampling. Then came Hardcore & Jungle/ Drum & Bass. At that point (about 93/94) I had become sick to death of the Amen Break & became a Gabber Dj, I mean come on.. 'can't you sample something else?' I dont mind it as a backbeat but for the main Drumbeat??........

All the Amen break says to me now about a track is how unoriginal and sheeplike the artist is, just like all the others, Baaaaaah!!! People are too scared to experiment and try new things and be different. The Drum & Bass/Jungle scene needs wake up and notice this or they will still be dancing to it in 2018 what a sickening thought!!!

I use amen all the time. Amen and Lyn Collins. Breakcore is my thing, and breakcore uses it CONSTANTLY.
