Please people, read a dictionary. A band who sold Multi-Millions of it's albums and plays on mainstream radios is anything but alternative. The term "Alternative Rock" was coined by studio execs who realized that the term "Contemporary Rock" was not well perceived by the young masses. Alternative music ranges from Rock to House to Disco to Funk and to any sort of music. Velvet Underground is a good example of a band that, in it's glory days, was considered alternative rock.

Pearl Jam is deffinately Alternativ Rock and not grunge.... but yeah i agree they are completely diff bands and shouldnt be compared to one another-

call it whatever the hell you want, Grunge or Alternative or whatever, but Nirvana and Pearl Jam are two COMPLETELY different bands that dont sound anything alike, but they are both legendary and cant be compared to one another

nirvana is over-rated, anyone hear their demos and at home stuff? now, that's some unintentionally funny singing. pearl jam is so much better as far as lyrics and song composition. they had better music videos too.
