A popular UU metaphor is "One light, many windows." We believe that there is one God/Truth/Divine but that it shines through many windows. The way we see the light may be different, but it still comes from the same source -- a source that can never be fully known or understood in this life. We believe that there is no one right or wrong spiritual path -- it is all about finding what is right for yourself while following guidelines of love, compassion, etc. Hope that explains it somewhat.

Its about respecting everyone's right to discover the truth in their own way. You may not think it is the right way, but we allow each other that right, because we respect that person's ability to make their own decisions.

How come can be Christian, Buddhist and whatever else been together in a church? What is their believe? I thought the unitarian church were Christians who believe in the unity of God, but If they are not really a church they should be called the Unitarian Universalists Gathering then.

I can see a future where the tolerant, liberal, inclusive philosophies of Unitarian Universalism replace the bigoted, reactionary, and hateful dogma of Christianity.

This video was nicely done, but one thing you didn't mention are Summer Institue and Cons. For the youth, its ussually extremly hard to be accepted just the way you are. With people in a UU youth group, you need to be no one but your own person.

What a tolerant faith. I think in the future, the government needs to give tax breaks as an incentive to convert and Muslims can be given incentives to convert to Baha'i. Can you imagine if there were no more religious right-wing hatered? All of America's "races" coming together in peace and mixing, mixing and mixing?

UU's generally believe that we were born innocent. There is no need to "be saved." There is nothing inherently wrong with us.

Wow! Is that church really good? I should visit it sometimes, i'm in Greensboro

It's about being able to believe what you WANT to believe. Some UUs have more Christian beliefs, some Buddists, some....whatever? Understand? It's not really a "church", It's a gathering of people who are learning about their own personal spiritual beliefs. There is NO dogma. |
