The 14 would simply out climb the 16 and fire away. By the time the 16 was burning the 14 would be on the deck. Sorry but that is the simple truth.

The F-16s could win in a dogfight but they would never get into one with a F-14. The F-14 has superior radar and missile range and would simply shoot the F-16s down before they saw the F-14s.

Well the Tomcat was not really a one on one dogfighter. It was a one to many dogfighter. The Avionics and weapons system on the Tomcat was designed to shoot well above the horizon. Therefore, no aircraft in the World was really a match for it. Beware of the fast changing wings'aspect ratio combined with a superb engine response made the Tomcat a hell of a fighter. The reason for its retirement was pure logistics. Maintenance was a killer and technology makes it no longer necessary. Sinetquanon!

F-14 handles like a dumptruck compared to the f-16 in high-speed engagement.

Does the F-16 take a shot at 1:51? We can see the black event marker in the upper left corner but he makes no radio call that he shot one. We then hear two beeps and these beeps seem to happen when the event marker disapears so maybe two missiles were launched. At 1:56 the dose the controller say "2 op aways...". I've seen missile test videos where they say "op away" when they shoot. If they did shoot, this dosn't make sense to me cause the controller dosn't call "fights on" till 2:51.

It should a fifth generation fighter which the F-22 is, should be able to defeat all fourth generation fighters which the F-16 and F-14 are. Also somewhere along the way people got the notion that the Tomcat was simply a missile carrier and a poor dogfighter. This notion is flat wrong. She was One of the toughest and ceratinly one of the best in the dogfight world. Get the Tomcat around 20,000ft at 350-450kts and you're in a world of hurt.
