to me it's not as necessarily relaxing as it is... nostalgic? contemplative maybe? but it's incredibly simple but moving, and being chinese i am used to music in this scale

That sucks that she won't let you have one. They are really cool! They also sound very peaceful. It is foolish for her to not let you spread your creative energy on a beautiful instrument such as the Guqin.
